Celebrate World Human Rights Day
December 10th is World Human Rights Day, which honors the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 (a must-read for all). The American Ethical Union celebrates the ethical values represented in the Declaration and our dedication to defending these rights.
“We must reaffirm our common humanity. Wherever we are, we can make a real difference. In the street, in school, at work, in public transport; in the voting booth, on social media…It starts with each of us. Step forward and defend the rights of a refugee or migrant, a person with disabilities, an LGBT person, a woman, a child, indigenous peoples, a minority group, or anyone else at risk of discrimination or violence.” — Message from United Nations
“Continue to dream of a world where human rights are vital and respected in every community. Work for these rights wherever and whenever possible. Stand for peace but remain rational. Know that standing for these ideas will be difficult in today’s climate of nationalistic zeal in many places, including, sadly, the United States of America.” — From “Honoring World Human Rights Day All Year” by Dr. David I.
