Dick Finamore (
Westchester)
-- Dick Finamore was an active Ethical Culture member for over forty years. He died at the age of 81 on June 24th. Dick worked at IBM (from 1956 until retirement in 1989) and volunteered for the American Civil Liberties Union and other social, environmental, and political causes (from which he never retired). He is survived by his wife Judy and several children and grandchildren.
Lydia Espada Last (
Brooklyn) -- Lydia Last died on July 30th at the age of 75. She and her late husband Jerry raised their family at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture. Their son Emile and his wife Yvonne are raising their family at the Westchester Society. Lydia is survived by another son and a daughter and her grandchildren.
Kay Nelson (
Chicago)
-- Kay Nelson died on July 25th at the age of 65. Kay was a native of Wisconsin and worked many years as a professional nurse.
Richard Peabody (
WES, NoVES, AEU) --
Richard Peabody was a longtime member and past President of the Washington Ethical Society. He was active in leadership positions in the American Ethical Union for many years and was recently a member of the Northern Virginia Ethical Society. Richard died on September 2nd at the age of 84. Our condolences to his wife Halina.
Ellen Cronan Rose (
Philadelphia)
-- Ellen Cronan Rose died at 73 on October 10th. She was a co-Editor of the Journal of Modern Literature since 2002, a distinguished retired professor, a staunch Democrat, and a proud feminist. Ellen will be greatly missed by her family, her many friends, and those she has touched over the years.
Phil Sillman (
Queens) --
Phil Sillman died on May 8th at the age of 97. He was a respected member of the Ethical Humanist Society of Queens.
Leif Zerkin (
Chicago) --
Leif Zerkin, son of Claire and Milt Zerkin, died on July 4th at the age of 62. He grew up in New Jersey and spent many years in the Ethical movement. Our condolences to Claire and Milt on their sad loss.
