In exploring the meaning of home in his inspiring November 6th platform, "The Ache for Home," Hugh Taft-Morales, new Leader of the Ethical Humanist Society of Philadelphia (EHSoP), acknowledged that his home away from home here in Philadelphia has from the very beginning felt comfortable "like an old slipper." And Society members whole heartedly agree.

Since last July he has piggy-backed onto a Rittenhouse Square arts festival with guitar in hand and free lemonade along with a sign inviting people to ask him about Ethical Humanism; opened the Society's doors to peace activists with a sing-a-long; hosted the Freethought Society's Tree of Knowledge (evicted from its previous location); and volunteered at the interfaith tent of Occupy Philly outside City Hall where he was invited to an intimate lunch with Jesse Jackson. All of this on top of his work as Leader of the Baltimore Ethical Society!
 
An Installation Ceremony planned for late afternoon, Sunday, April 15, allows us to acknowledge and celebrate our Society's partnership with Hugh through music, words, and camaraderie. We will formally communicate what we expect of each other and our commitments for working together to meet those expectations. This special occasion promises a time filled with the joy of coming together for affirming Hugh's new-found connections with Philadelphia's religious and social justice communities, with whom we work and hope to build strong relationships. It offers the opportunity to showcase Philadelphia's rich 126-year history of Ethical Humanism.
 
While installation ceremonies are well established in liberal Protestant congregations, Ethical Culture has just recently introduced the practice with moving ceremonies at the Washington Ethical Society for Leaders Mary Herman and Amanda Poppei. The EHSoP will be only the second Society to offer such a celebration so there is a lot of room for creativity and innovation as we seek to plan an event that truly has meaning for us.
