Inch by inch, row by row, I will watch my garden grow!
Mary Ellen Stanton, President, Northern Virginia Ethical Society reported a quote from a wise woman, NOVES Leader Jone Johnson Lewis, who states, when considering how "Ethics Begins With Choice":
On a recent visit to the primary class, I saw choice in action. As with adults, the entire Sunday School meets for candle lighting. Instead of reciting Adler's words, "The place where people meet to seek the highest is holy ground," our Sunday School begins by saying the following words, "This is the place where we talk about important things."
Ethics in action begins when we nuture our young people, by giving them choices to freely make.
The NOVES Ethical Society News also reported helping girls in Kenya by giving them choices through education.
Kakenya's Dream
Kakenya Ntaiya, the founder and president of the Kakenya Center for Excellence, will talk about her journey and her dream for the girls of her village through the Center for Excellence. Located in a remote village in Kenya, the Center is the area's first and only primary school for girls. Through the Center, Kakenya is transforming attitudes from the traditional beliefs of early childhood marriage and female genital mutilation to the value of education for girls. The Center opened in 2009 with 32 girls in residence. It hopes to enroll 150 girls in grades 4 through 8.
