"What is Ethical Culture? What is humanism? How do they relate to each other? Are they the same thing?" Felix Adler didn't think so, but later leaders of the Ethical Culture movement defined it as a "humanist movement." Dan Barker's book begins, "When I was 15, I received a "call to the ministry." He answered the call and went on to a 19-year career as an evangelical preacher. But today he is copresident of The Freedom From Religion Foundation, which lays claim as America's largest association of freethinkers (atheists, agnostics and skeptics), with more than 16,000 members.
