Wall of Remembrance

Katharine Eisner (Westchester Society) – Katharine (Dotsy) Jaretzki, 88, of Scarsdale, N.Y., died on February 2, 2012. Dotsy attended New York University and received her degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught nursery school in Manhattan and volunteered for many years at the Head Start preschool program in Mamaroneck. She was active in her children's lives as a leader in Cub Scouts, and the PTA. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Dotsy loved to read, knit, do needlepoint, paint, travel, and play bridge with her bridge group of several decades.

Ed Herrmann (Westchester) – Former Westchester Society member Edmund Herrmann died on March 29 in Dunedin, Florida at age 94. Ed worked as a compositor for The New York Times, retiring in 1983 as computers began making that line of work obsolete. He was an active member of the Society for many years while he lived with his family in Mount Vernon. After retirement, he was very active in hospice care both in Westchester and after moving to Florida in 1992. Ed was known for his energy, good humor, and warm personality.

Frank Byron Prescod (NYSEC) – Forty-year member of the New York Society for Ethical Culture, Frank Byron Prescod died on April 7 at age 81. Frank's wide-ranging intellect and sense of humor charmed hosts of friends and acquaintances. Frank was truly a man of service, and he exemplified the care and concern to which we all aspire. He was elected three times to the Board of Trustees and served as Chair of innumerable NYSEC Committees. Frank was also a member of the New York Civil Rights Coalition; Mentoring USA, a program created to support at-risk youths; Black Psychiatrists of Greater NY and Associates; and the Frederick Douglass Alumni Association. Frank and his partner Stanley Armstrong were jointly recognized by the Black Retail Action Group (BRAG)  in 1985 for their achievements in business.

Rosalyn Trapp (Chicago Society) – Rosalyn Trapp, longtime member of the Chicago Society, died on January 20 at age 85 after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Chicago, she was a graduate of Northern Illinois University. She had worked as a physical education teacher and dance instructor at Fenton High School in Bensenville. Roz was an avid traveler and gardener. Her kind spirit will be greatly missed.

Sylvan Wallach (NYSEC) – A Trustee of the New York Society from 2005 to 2009, Sylvan Wallach died on April 12 at the age of 98. Sylvan was the sole editor of the Society's newsletter and Chair of the Society's Internet Committee, creating their first website. He served on the Building Committee and the former Men's Group, and was also a welcoming presence at Sunday morning meetings and a volunteer cashier at Sunday lunches. Sylvan held a Ph.D. in Mathematics from John Hopkins University and was Professor Emeritus in Mathematics at C.W. Post College. He was always loving, supportive, and very interested in his children and grandchildren, their activities, their loves, and their ideas. His warmth, intelligence, and kindness will be greatly missed.
