UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA URGED TO END APARTHEID, RESTORE HUMAN RIGHTS GRANTED BY U.N. CHARTER WHEREAS the prime belief of the American Ethical Union is the innate worth and dignity of every human being regardless of race, creed, color, national or social origin WHEREAS the Government of the Union of South Africa officially discriminates against all non-white peoples -- the laws of the land denying them equal protection; forcing the vast majority of its citizens into job, residential, religious, educational and cultural segregation; denying this ten million of its people freedom of movement within their own country. WHEREAS the Government of the Union of South Africa pursues this policy of Apartheid even within the mandated territory of South West Africa, and WHEREAS the American Ethical Union believes in the principle that freedom is not the prerogative of any single ethnic group and that its human responsibility does not end at national frontiers Therefore, Be it Resolved that we of the American Ethical Union deplore the actions of the Government of the Union of South Africa in its policy of Apartheid against its non-white citizens. Therefore we of the American Ethical Union do call on the Government of the Union of South Africa to honor its moral and legal obligation as a signatory of the Charter of the United Nations and to restore human rights to all the peoples of its own land.
