AEU PROGRAM URGES GOVERNMENTS TO SEEK WORLD SAFEGUARDS AGAINST ATOMIC ENERGY WHEREAS there is increasing concern about the harmful effects of fallout from nuclear weapons testings, and WHEREAS many UN and other scientific committees recognize the dangers of the radioactive fallout from tests and studying the ill effects of the improper use of nuclear energy in agriculture, medicine and industry and OTHER scientific committees are promoting the peaceful and constructive use of nuclear energy in the aforementioned fields, the American Ethical Union RESOLVES; 1. To continue studying and educating the public on the above issues; 2. To encourage government officials to continue to press for national and international safeguards in respect to nuclear energy; 3. To encourage the proper use of nuclear power in agriculture, medicine and industry, and 4. To request the United States to proceed in the Geneva Nuclear negotiations in order to reach a first step agreement on the banning of nuclear weapons testing so that the nuclear powers may write a Treaty acceptable to other nations for the protection of mankind from fallout and from the further spread of nuclear weapons, TO THE END that mankind will find the use of nuclear energy a benefit and not a scourge.
