WHEREAS The Peoples Republic of China consists of 750,000,000 people, approximately one-quarter of the world's population, and its government has maintained control for fifteen years; WHEREAS The Peoples Republic of China is recognized by forty-nine nations, including England, France, Sweden and other of our allies; WHEREAS recognition of government does not imply acceptance of its political philosophy or moral approval of that regime; and WHEREAS the fact that The Peoples Republic of China has exploded a nuclear device makes more obvious the fact that the implementation of any comprehensive test ban treaty or meaningful agreement on world problems including disarmament would be impossible without its participation.; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the American Ethical Union urges the United States government to negotiate actively toward the recognition of The Peoples Republic of China, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the American Ethical Union urges the United States government to support the seating of The Peoples Republic of China in the United Nations,
