WHEREAS the American Ethical Union has at many National Assemblies affirmed its faith in fundamental human rights and in the innate worth and dignity of every human being, regardless of race, creed, color, national and social origin; and WHEREAS a basic human right, not to be denied, is the free choice of a partner in marriage, "a precinct which may not be invaded"; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the American Ethical Union opposes laws that restrict the right of marriage between persons of different racial origin, considers intolerable the retention of any laws subjecting marriage to any such test and urges the various Societies to support all efforts to eliminate anti-miscegenation laws that may exist in the areas that they serve.
