WHEREAS there is a serious problem of hunger and malnutrition in our country; and

WHEREAS private and government investigations uncovered starvation and severe states of malnutrition believed to be non-existent in technologically advanced and wealthy countries such as ours; and

WHEREAS these conditions are known to have a permanent effect on physical and mental development of the individual; and

WHEREAS the individual states and the federal government have failed to deal with the problem in a humane and ethical manner; and

THEREFORE BE It RESOLVED that the American Ethical Union, Societies, Fellowships and members petition the federal government to subsidize and administer to the needs of its people; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the blight of poverty requires our top priority attention and that any and all monies necessary to eradicate the condition of hunger appropriated in a program started immediately.
