1973: UNITED NATIONS April 1973 - 65th Annual AEU Assembly

UNITED NATIONS

WHEREAS, the United States was the powerful and leading force and gave inspired leadership to the world governments and peoples through its strong support for the United Nations, and

WHEREAS, the United States' neglect and bypassing of the United Nations weakens the effectiveness of the world organization, and

WHEREAS, recent scientific, political, and economic changes in all areas of the world have comprised one of the greatest revolutionary periods of history and the United Nations has helped the world survive these changes,

THEREFORE, be it resolved that the United States return to its leadership role in the changing United Nations and strengthen it by adhering to its commitments (such as, the embargo on Rhodesian chrome), ratify the United Nations Human Rights Conventions, and encourage the use of the United Nations for settlement of international disputes and the elimination of all nuclear weapons.
