WHEREAS, our concern for human dignity and human rights is a cornerstone of our philosophy and WHEREAS, the Chilean Junta has outraged the moral conscience of the world community by ignoring these principles in the following manner, i.e.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the United States make public representations to the Chilean government deploring these acts and demand that both the U.N. and the Human Rights Commission of the OAS send commissions of inquiry to Chile to investigate human rights violations, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all United States military and economic aid to Chile whether public or private be ended except for humanitarian assistance to civilians under strict international supervision, and BE IT ALSO RESOLVED that the Congress and the Executive Branch relax the restrictions against entry of refugees from Chile and that our diplomatic representatives in Chile gave sanctuary to refugees in case of need, and BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED THAT the widest publicity be given to this resolution and that the President, Secretary of State, other United States government officials and the Chilean Ambassador be notified of its contents and made aware of our concern.
