ARMS REDUCTION AND NATIONAL PRIORITIES

The American Ethical Union believes that continued expansion of our already swollen armaments will bring us closer to the brink of war devasting to all humanity, and will further distort our national priorities. We therefore urge the United States Government to take bolder steps toward ending the arms race and shifting military expenditures to meet human needs. Such steps should include not only multilateral and bilateral negotiations such as SALT, but independent initiatives for reduction of our "overkill" capacity and a halt to all nuclear weapons testing.
