The Constitution of the United States provides for clear separation of powers among the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government. An independent Federal judiciary is vital to our continued freedom. Sponsors of more than thirty bills designed to curtail the jurisdiction of Federal courts openly declare that their purpose is to alter the constitutional interpretations of law that now govern. The proper process for changing the Constitution is by amendment, not by act of Congress. The American Ethical Union, therefore, opposes all legislation designed to curtail the jurisdiction of the United States Supreme Court or the lower Federal courts.
