1983: DISARMAMENT 1983 - 75th NATIONAL AEU ASSEMBLY

DISARMAMENT

WHEREAS, a popular mandate for a halt to the Nuclear Arms Race has been indicated by national polls, Freeze Referenda, the Catholic Bishop's Pastoral Letter and the Freeze Vote in the House of Representatives, and

WHEREAS, THE Reagan Administration and Congress, disregarding public opinion, are going ahead with plans and funds for increased military spending, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

    The American Ethical Union reaffirms its 1982 Resolution on Disarmament, and calls on Congress to respond to public opinion by enacting legislation to withhold all funds for testing, production and deployment of any more nuclear weapons and systems, and calls on the Soviet Union to do likewise.
