SUPPORT FOR GLOBAL SECURITY

WHEREAS, American military strategy has gone from hoping to prevent a nuclear war through Mutual Assured Destruction, to giving our military forces the ability to fight and win a prolonged nuclear war, and

WHEREAS, all nuclear strategies are suicidal, as all life on earth may be destroyed by a nuclear war, which current policies make more likely, and

WHEREAS, there is pending in Congress H Con Resolution 123 which provides for the common security of all nations through

A. the staged, proportional disarmament of all nations under effective international inspection and control, and

B. concurrent agreements providing methods and instrumentalities for the peaceful settlement of international disputes,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

In the interest of common security and global survival, the American Ethical Union urges the United States government to discard these military strategies, and replace them with: a freeze, better relations with the Soviet Union, and implementation of legislation such as Common Security Resolution 123 for an alternate global security system.
