SUPPORT OF A NATIONAL PEACE ACADEMY

WHEREAS, legislation to establish a National Peace Academy is now under consideration by Congress, and

WHEREAS, the United States now provides support for three military academies and a national college for the waging of war as an instrument of national policy, and

WHEREAS, the use of war and its technologies of mass destruction have now become suicidal, and

WHEREAS, the state of art of mediation, negotiation, conflict resolution and related strategies are now advanced to a high level of scientific knowledge, and have been successfully implemented in various social arenas, and

WHEREAS, these techniques are to be further developed and implemented through a National Peace Academy,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

The American Ethical Union urges Congress to support pending legislation for the creation of a National Peace Academy.
