MUTUAL FREEZE

WHEREAS, the continuing arms race threatens all life on earth, and

WHEREAS, the current United States-Soviet negotiations in Geneva may take years, during which escalation will probably continue, and

WHEREAS, the Soviet Union has proposed a ban on research and development of space weapons, which the United States rejected,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

The American Ethical Union urges the Administration to propose to a mutual verifiable freeze on missile deployment and space weapon development, as a first step to an early agreement to freeze all nuclear weapons during negotiations.

Adopted by the American Ethical Union Assembly at the Philadelphia Society, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, 1985.
