THE FORCIBLE RETURN OF REFUGEES FROM SALVADOR
WHEREAS, the forcible return of refugees from El Salvador asking asylum in the United States places these people in serious risk of injury and death, and,
WHEREAS, such action by the United States clearly violates the tradition of providing a haven for the politically persecuted and suffering,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The American Ethical Union strongly support the Moakley-DeConcini Bill (H.R. 822 in the House, S. 377 in the Senate) to suspend deportation of Salvadorans from the United States for approximately two years, providing the time required for a careful study of the problems involved,
The American Ethical Union support this Bill as a sane and humane response to the ongoing violence against civilian non-combatants in El Salvador.
Adopted by the American Ethical Union Assembly at the St. Louis Society, St. Louis, Missouri, 1986.
