IRRADIATION OF FOOD

WHEREAS, the Federal Food & Drug Administration approved treating fresh fruits, vegetables and some meats with radioactive isotopes; and

WHEREAS, the FDA stated their decision was based on theoretical calculations not scientific tests,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

The American Ethical Union supports the Bosco Bill in the House and the Mitchell Bill in the Senate, to stop all food irradiation until a thorough study is made to determine its effect on our health and environment.

Adopted by the American Ethical Union Assembly in Riverdale, New York; 1987.
