On the Burning of Black Churches The National Leaders Council of the American Ethical Union, meeting at Warwick, New York, on June 21, 1996, and the Board of Directors of the American Ethical Union, meeting in New York City, on June 22, 1996, unanimously passed the following resolution: We deplore the recent burning of Black churches. We deplore the underlying racism that leads to such action, and together with those of other denominations, we proclaim our unwavering solidarity with those seeking to repair the targeted institutions and pledge hereto our energy, our means and our determination. We urge all to contribute to the rebuilding of these churches and to the eradication of racial hatred and bigotry in our country.
