Resolution 4-03

Repeal Phase II of President Bush’s Ten-Year Tax Cut of June 2001

Whereas, the New York Society for Ethical Culture Board of Trustees has passed a resolution petitioning the United States Congress to repeal Phase II of President Bush’s Ten Year Tax Cut of June 2001, and

Whereas, a Trustee and Petition Committee Chair of said Society, Maria Feliz Fridman, has requested the American Ethical Union to consider adopting the said resolution, and

Whereas, that the surplus has already evaporated, and

Whereas, the tax cuts will significantly increase the budget deficit, and

Whereas, that Phase II of the tax cuts will go mostly to the wealthiest Americans, and

Whereas, that budget deficits at the state and local levels will require cuts in programs that require federal assistance, therefore be it

Resolved, that the American Ethical Union (AEU) hereby supports petitioning the United States Congress to repeal President Bush’s tax cuts of 2001, specifically Phase II of said act that takes effect from 2004 through 2010.
