Dennis Barton spoke on March 23, 2014 at the Brooklyn Society for Ethical Culture about “Homelessness and the Human Spirit.”
More families and individuals are homeless in New York City than at any time since the Great Depression. As more and more New Yorkers lose housing, what is the effect of homelessness on people’s bodies, minds, and spirits? Dennis Barton, who is formerly homeless and a longtime member of the Governing Council of the Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing, explains the effect of homelessness, and the journey out of homelessness, on his and others’ lives and psyches. Barton is also a deacon at Middle Collegiate Church and a workshop facilitator with Planned Parenthood.
