1951 – AEU Asks Inclusion in Covenant of Declaration of Human Rights

Whereas, the General Assembly of the United Nations has requested the Economic and Social Council to call upon the Commission on Human Rights to reconsider the Covenant on Human Rights; and
Whereas, it is the declared policy of the United States, as Member of the United Nations, “to reaffirm faith in fundamental rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person,” and “in equal rights of men and women,”
Therefore, the American Ethical Union calls upon the Department of State to support the inclusion in the Covenant of economic and social rights set forth in the Declaration of Human Rights and also to provide the opportunity for any recognized groups within nations to make representations directly to the international organization concerning alleged abridgment of human rights.
