1960 – Opposition To All Forms Of Racial Discrimination
Submitted to and Passed at 53rd AEU Assembly, which convened in Philadelphia
Whereas millions of our citizens, by reason of race or color, are systematically denied equal protection of the law in voting, housing, education, employment and access to public facilities; and
Whereas the denial of full citizenship rights violates the human dignity and welfare of those deprived and weakens the moral basis of the United States;
Be It Resolved that the American Ethical Union reaffirms its opposition to all forms of racial discrimination and, as matter of ethical principle, supports all efforts designed to achieve full citizenship for all our citizens; and
Be It Further Resolved that local Societies implement this principle by undertaking educational programs and joining with other agencies on state and local levels in efforts for full equality.
