Submitted and Passed by the AEU Board of Directors on April 27, 1997
Whereas every nation in the United Nations has ratified the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child except Somalia and the United States; and
Whereas said convention is the most inclusive human rights treaty ever written; and
Whereas said convention serves as a universal ethical framework for addressing the needs and rights of children everywhere; and
Whereas children now represent nearly one-half the world’s population but have no political power; and
Whereas children represent the future of our world; and
Whereas the United States President has already signed said convention
Therefore Be It Resolved that the American Ethical Union calls upon the President of political power; the United States to submit the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child to the political power; United States Senate with a strong recommendation that the Senate ratify said convention.
