People’s Climate Movement: A Call to Action
Last year we made history. This year we start building the future. Click here to take action.
Note: The AEU signed up to take action on the below announcements sent from the People’s Climate Movement. We encourage individuals and Societies to join us in sponsoring and supporting their work.
In September 2014, over 400,000 people marched in the streets of New York City, demanding that national and world leaders join us in taking action on the climate crisis. The People’s Climate March, the largest action on climate ever, had a huge impact on world leaders, but here at home U.S leaders are not yet acting with urgency. And we are running out of time.
At the end of 2015, nations will meet again to negotiate UN climate agreements in Paris that commit all countries to address climate change. What comes out of Paris will not mark the end of our efforts but could be an important step in the global process of confronting climate change.
10 year Commemoration of Hurricane Katrina
The People’s Climate Movement is supporting the efforts being organized in the Gulf South region to commemorate 10 years since Hurricane Katrina. We will be working with Gulf South Rising and groups in the area to support local priorities.
October 14 National Day of Action
The People’s Climate Movement and others are calling for a National Day of Action Wednesday, October 14 to demand bold action on the climate change crisis facing our planet. We are calling for a sustainable and just economy that preserves our planet and works for all.
Join the call to action to change the course of history
This summer and fall we will continue to build a powerful movement for change and bring the demand for bold action to our leaders in anticipation of the Paris talks. We will insist that our public leaders support us in taking action in building a new economy that will avert the worst impacts of the climate crisis. And, we will call out those public leaders, corporations and other organizations that are standing in the way of progress as they deny the science and block the alternatives.
By acting now we can prevent the worst consequences of global warming. We can build a fair economy that sustains a living environment while promoting good jobs and social & economic justice.
The communities on the front-lines of the floods, the storms and droughts are the ones that will benefit the most from solutions to climate change. Working together with workers and their unions, faith communities, youth and students, indigenous peoples and others, our communities, our nation can transition to a clean energy economy that is fair for workers and improves all of our lives. We can–we must–reduce pollution, end poverty, and turn to alternative energy sources all at the same time.
We invite your organization to take a leadership role, and engage in creative and powerful actions highlighting those organizations, think tanks, and public leaders who deny climate change and oppose progress. Sign up here to commit to joining us and to get information about the next steps in building this movement, including details about our first conference call.
