As a white, taxpaying, home owner, I believe it’s the police chief's duty to protect me and my interests rather than the other way around. I also believe that my friend, who is a Black, taxpaying, homeowner ought to be perceived as a boss of the police chief in her town – but she didn’t see it that way and was surprised that I saw myself in the position of power vis a vis the chief. National Leaders Council Update

Like you, members of the National Leaders Council are responding to the dual challenges of a pandemic and on-going racism and white supremacy in America that, as Ta-Nehisi Coates puts it, “is a visceral experience, …it dislodges your brains, blocks airways, rips muscle, extracts organs, cracks bones, breaks teeth.” While supporting members of Ethical Societies they serve, Ethical Culture Leaders are also speaking out, attending rallies, and working in multiracial coalitions to push for real and lasting racial justice.
