AEU 2022 Assembly Membership Committee Workshop: New Society Development – A Capacity-Building Approach

21 Jul 2022 | 02:45 pm - 04:15 pm

In the past, efforts to establish new Societies have emphasized an early introduction of full-featured platforms led by experienced, often professional, representatives of the AEU.  This assembly presentation introduces a new consultative approach that empowers each local organizer to lead their group’s own formation process.  This in turn entails a sustained cultivation of personal connections at the local level, grounded in our ethical culture philosophy.

About our Presenters:

James Croft (Discussant) the Leader of the Ethical Society of St. Louis. Educated at Cambridge (BA) and Harvard (EdD), he is a contributor to the Oxford Handbook of Humanism, and his work is published in numerous academic journals and popular publications. A Humanist activist and speaker, James was raised on Shakespeare, Carl Sagan, and Star Trek, and lives in St. Louis, MO with his husband, Kolten, and their chihuahua, Ella.

John Daken has worked for many years extracting ideas for innovation from the congregational literature. He is a member of the Washington Ethical Society and Chair of the AEU’s Membership Committee.
