Whereas, the American Ethical Union has a long history in affirming a culture of peace through a broad reach of/ethical strategies, e.g. the formation of The National Women’s Conference in 1929, whose purpose was the promotion of peace, accreditation at and sustained affirmation of the United Nations since 1947, many Resolutions dedicated to issues for Peace (eight) and the reduction of unnecessary military conflicts (nine);

On September 14, 2005, US Representative Dennis Kucinich and others presented HR Bill 3760 in Congress establishing a Department of Peace and Nonviolence.

On March 11, 2006, the American Ethical Union President’s Council endorsed the Department of Peace and nonviolence and urged The American Ethical Union to join The Peace Alliance.

Be It resolved, the American Ethical Union, through its Ethical Action Committee and National Service Conference, take appropriate actions in support of establishing a US Department of Peace and Nonviolence such as described in HR 3760 and presented on September 14, 2005.

Furthermore, the American Ethical Union encourages all Societies and Circles to educate members and local communities about this Campaign for a Department of Peace and Nonviolence;

The American Ethical Union encourages all Societies and Circles to advocate through letter writing, media promotions, workshops, etc. about the mandate for a Department of Peace and Nonviolence;

The American Ethical Union endorses the efforts of The National Service Conference to promote departments of peace worldwide as part of the Campaign for a Culture of Peace.
