Ethical Action is an expression of our core commitments to honor the worth of all people, cultivate relationships, and build justice. We work together to bring out the best in others and ourselves, enhancing everyone’s unique capacity and responsibility to contribute to a more humane world. Ethical Action Committees at our Ethical Societies coordinate events and campaigns to provide opportunities for the personal ethical growth of members and for enhancing the ethical grounding of our public systems and institutions. The AEU Ethical Action Committee provides support to Societies in their Ethical Action work (community strengthening and local change), and leveraging the power of the AEU as a national organization with moral authority (systemic change).
The American Ethical Union has passed a resolution--Defending the Right to Vote--to "stand up for a democracy that protects our values and our constitutional right to cast our vote." The words of the resolution are contained in the graphic as a reminder of the importance of protecting this precious right. You can also read the resolution at aeu.org/resource/2019-defending-the-right-to-vote/. Please do read it.
The resolution cites many concerns about ways in which our right to vote is being eroded and why it needs to be defended and then points to multiple ways to defend it. Certainly we need to exercise our right to vote at every opportunity, but we also need to work together to ensure that everyone who is eligible to vote can get registered and have convenient access to the ballot.
Where to begin? Anywhere. When to start? Now. What to do? Everything you can.
