News

darwin_homeWe are excited to announce that the Honorable John J. Watras has proclaimed Darwin Day (on Charles Darwin’s actual birthday, February 12) a holiday in Garden City, New York. Darwin Day promotes the public education and encourages the celebration of science and humanity.

The Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island invited the Mayor to make an official proclamation at the “Darwin Day: A Humanist Celebration!” on Sunday, February 8, 2015. The event will include Dr. John Teehan of Hofstra University speaking on “A Darwinian Approach to Religion: Humanistic Implications” and honor Jon Stepanian from Long Island Food Not Bombs (which will be collecting donations for vegan food drive).

Join the Long Island Society on Sunday, February 8, at 11am for this inspiring event. Free admission (donations appreciated) and free childcare.
Stay for lunch, raffle prizes, opportunity to create your own “Openly Secular” video, letter Writing for Social Change, “Survival of the Fittest” game, and other fun activities.
