

Nigeria: Humanist Leader Freed at LastMabarak Bala, President of Humanist Association of Nigeria, was released from prison after four and one-half years. He was arrested for Facebook posts criticizing religion and charged with blasphemy, a capital crime in Northern Nigeria. Working with other organizations, Humanists International was able to secure legal representation and raise the case to international visibility.
These efforts paid off when Mabarak Bala was recently released from prison.
