7 to 11 PM
At the Philadelphia Ethical Society
The SPEED DEEDING Fair will kick off the 110th Assembly of the American Ethical Union hosted by the Philadelphia Ethical Society located at 1906 South Rittenhouse Square.
“Deed over Creed is our Ethical mantra,” explains Audrey Kindred, AEU Ethical Education Committee Chair. “SPEED DEEDING is an opportunity for activists and creatives from various communities to demonstrate their projects and initiatives for a fun experience.”
This activism Fair will run from 7 to 11 PM and there will be lite refreshments and entertainment. It is for people of all ages to brainstorm achievable and creative projects that range from helping the environment to combating prejudice to being a good neighbor. Working together in groups, participants will have fun, meet new people, and build relationships while discovering their affinities for activism and learning to make a concrete difference in the world.
Speed Deeding also embodies the central Ethical Culture principle of “bringing out the best in others, brings out the best in ourselves.” Working together on shared concerns, strangers can effortlessly transform into a united “us.” Presuppositions and stereotyping peel away; trust and respect build. As participants learn from those with complementary strengths, distinct perspectives, and exciting new ideas, they also will find unexpected commonalities. The hope is that friendships—perhaps even alliances—that endure beyond the Assembly will be born.
