Whereas the principle of separation between church and state as embodied in the First Amendment to the Constitution is threatened by efforts to secure aid for church-related schools; and
Whereas of late other tendencies seem to us to undermine the principle of separation, among them released time, prayers in public schools, religious symbols displayed inside and outside public schools, and the phrase “under God” included in the Pledge of Allegiance;
Be It Therefore Resolved that the American Ethical Union and its constituent Societies vigorously oppose all federal and state aid to church-related schools and at the same time continue the fight for separation of church and state in other areas by all appropriate means.
