Reflections: A Journal on Ethical Culture Ideas and Community Life
Edited by Joe Chuman

ECjournal

Reflections is an online journal providing essays of opinion on the ideas animating Ethical Culture and the enrichment of its cultural life. Each issue will invite responses on a common theme. Writers are drawn from the National Leaders’ Council of Ethical Culture and contributors from the wider Ethical Movement.

We hope you enjoy reading Reflections and it will inspire discussion about the issues it raises. We invite your comment. For February 2019, the question is:

“Ethical Eating” has emerged as a topic of consideration and programming at various Ethical Societies. Interest has arisen out of concern for animal welfare, environmental sustainability, economic resources, health and other factors.

Should Ethical Societies develop explicit policies with regard to which foods are served at Ethical Culture activities? Moving Societies toward vegetarianism and veganism has been promoted, but how is this best done? How can policies be advocated while avoiding moralism or alienating those who hold different positions as to the predilections and values that guide their eating choices?
