EHSR NY Times Ethicist Column Discussion

October 12, 2022 | 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

For their upcoming meeting, the Ethical Humanist Society of Rochester will be switching things up by discussing a couple of the questions raised in the NY Times Ethicist column. The author of the column, Kwame Anthony Appiah (Philosophy, NYU), answers questions from readers about every day ethical problems. You can find an archive of the columns from the past couple of years here.  We’ll begin by discussing this one:

My House Cleaner is Sick a Lot.  Do I have to Stick with Her?  (2/8/22)

If time permits, we’ll turn to this one:

How Much Should I Spend to Keep My Elderly Dog Alive?  (7/26/22)

Both columns are attached, but you can also find them at the website noted above. If you get a chance to read the columns – they are short – it’ll be helpful to think about your own reaction to the issues raised and to Appiah’s response. The specific issues raised may prompt you to think of other, somewhat similar issues, you’ve faced. We hope that this will be the basis for an interesting meeting.

*Note: This will be a Zoom only meeting.

We hope to see you there and please don’t forget to RSVP.
