Keeping the Faith at College

AnneKlaeysenDr. Anne Klaeysen, Leader of the New York Society for Ethical Culture, was the featured expert for the Affordable Colleges Online “Keeping the Faith” resources guide. Affordable Colleges Online is a website that provides tools and resources to help students make well-informed decisions about college. Anne shared her insight on why it is important for students to maintain or explore their religious and spiritual beliefs, and how they can seek services on campus. She discussed her personal experience and her current work with students at Columbia and New York University.

“College is a place to discuss one’s beliefs with others–and to have them challenged; it is, after all, an institution of higher learning,” said Anne. “My interfaith work over the years has both reinforced my humanist faith and given me great respect for other faiths, especially in the field of social justice, where we share much common ground. In Ethical Culture we talk about putting deed above creed. Belief is important, but only when it motivates and supports ethical action.”
