Welcome to our new National Director of Ethical Education, Melissa Sinclair! Melissa is a member of the Northern Virginia Ethical Society (NoVES) and the Director of Lifelong Learning at the Washington Ethical Society (WES). She has accumulated a vast knowledge of teaching ethics, recruiting and training teachers, building curricula, and planning lessons.
After earning her M.Ed in Educational Administration, Melissa worked on admissions, housing, and student activities in universities such as Temple University and University of Waterloo. She began at NoVES as a Sunday School Teacher in 2006 and became their Director of Ethical Education in 2011, before taking on her current position at WES in 2014. Her successes at both Societies are impressive and include significantly increasing enrollment, developing many programs, and improving teacher training. At WES, she helps plan and promote special events like auctions, festivals, rallies, community dinners, and all their social justice work.
Melissa has always emphasized increased collaboration amongst Ethical Education directors and their teachers. She is a member of the National Ethical Education Committee and has presented topics at the last two Ethical Education Family Weekends and at the 100th AEU Assembly in 2015. We are excited to have her continue to share her enthusiasm and skills with the wider Ethical Culture Movement. Keep up with Melissa’s work and updates in Ethical Education throughout the Movement in the Dialogue, on the AEU website, and at future events.
