Addressing the Whole Truth About America: AEU Assembly 2021

08 Jun 2021 - 07 Aug 2021 | 12:00 am - 12:00 am

The AEU’s 106th Assembly will be held virtually, with various workshops and business working sessions being held between June 8, 2021, and ending with the AEU Business Meeting on August 7, 2021 and the All Society Platform on August 8, 2021.

The theme of our Assembly is “ADDRESSING THE WHOLE TRUTH ABOUT AMERICA.”

…. Is America all that it should be? All that it could be? Is America living up to its aspirations?

…. Throughout our history, systemic racism, white nationalism, and economic inequality are woven into the fabric of American society. A failed political system and Climate Crisis denial prevent American leadership from building a sustainable future that includes everyone.

…. How can we move toward the justice, healing, and reconciliation that we all long for? A search for truth can serve as a beginning for understanding how we, as humans, receive and process information, how we cast aside old knowledge for new appreciation of relationships, how we can look forward to the future with new ways of sharing and caring for each other in a finite world. With a renewed awareness of the truth about America, we can find an opportunity for change and transformation to realize the human worth and dignity of everyone. Greater understanding of the problems we face can offer us greater opportunities for collaboration, for becoming more effective allies, and for co-creating a better future for all.

Update: April 7 2021

The AEU Assembly Planning Committee has been working to prepare for Assembly 2021, which begins on June 8 and ends on August 8.

The educational program will include three tracks:

Addressing the Whole Truth About America – (the Truth Track) featuring AEU Leaders, lay leaders, and guest speakers to talk about the high cost of racism, the parallel streams of racism and anti-racism in American society, immigration, and our monetary system;
AEU in the 21st Century – (the Ethical Track) featuring AEU leaders and affiliates (FES and maybe NES) to talk about Ethical Culture contemporary humanism, the importance of interfaith work, and our vision for the future;
Organizing Ethical Culture – (the Organizing Track) featuring Jone Lewis and members of FES to talk about important elements of organizing and managing local Ethical Culture Societies as well as how to grow the Movement.

Assembly 2021 will also include two awards programs to honor Society volunteers with the Anna Garlin Spencer Award (June 26) and to present the Felix Adler Lifetime Achievement Award (July 23).

The Assembly 2021 Business Meeting will be held on August 7, preceded over several weeks by a number of discussion sessions for consideration of matters which will be voted on in the business meeting. Individual sessions will consider bylaws amendments, Board nominations, resolutions, and the AEU budget.
