Chetan Ahimsa Zoom Presentation with The Freethought Society

10 Mar 2022 | 06:45 pm

Alongside our friends from the Freethought Society, we are happy to announce our upcoming presentation with guest speaker Chetan Ahimsa. Chetan is an Indian-American actor from Kannada, India who is known for his political and social activism, specifically in protesting the Indian caste system. His beliefs angered right-wing extremists who tried to prevent the screening of his 2017 film, Athiratha. This response led to a poor showing at the box office even though the movie received positive reviews from audiences. Despite having his career affected by his activism and even being arrested for making “offensive remarks”, Chetan remains undeterred and continues to fight for equality, justice, rationality, and non-violence. He has been influenced by Dravidar Kazhagam, the Self-Respect Movement started by Indian social activist and politician Erode Venkatappa Ramasamy. His presentation will focus on what motivates him to fight for equality and the people who have helped him along the way. For more information on Chetan, check out the link below and join us on March 10th at 6:45 EST to hear from the man himself.
