An inherent factor of the Ethical Movement is that any evaluation of man based on race, color, creed, sex or ethnic origin is a violation of the Movement’s ethical principles. Therefore, the American Ethical Union and the National Women’s Conference wholeheartedly support the United Nations Resolution for the observance of 1971 as International Year for Action to Combat Racism and Racial Discrimination.

We are all of one race, and each one is a unique individual. Racism has no biological basis; it is social in origin; derives from habit; thrives on myth, is self-serving in economic and political opportunism.

In full recognition of these principles, the American Ethical Union and the National Women’s Conference will:

1) Continue to promote the passage and de facto implementation of laws that recognize man’s dignity of person and his rights to equality in treatment and opportunity;

2) Protest the use of biased text books in schools, and continuously use our efforts to prevent publication and distribution of such biased material;

3) Discourage overt and hidden racial statements in mass media, and encourage the media to produce programs which engender attitudes of racial harmony;

4) Encourage our members to intensify their efforts in support of the United Nations, and seek further ways of urging our government to ratify the United Nations Convention against Genocide and the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Racial Discrimination.
