Submitted to the AEU 64th Assembly

The United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden in June 1972 constitutes an opportunity for individuals, organizations and governments to initiate and promote conservation of natural resources as a new ethic for action toward the well-being of present and future generations and the betterment of our environment.

The greatest hope for peace is the fact that we have discovered that the sky and oceans cannot be divided as land can, nor contained within fixed boundaries.

In as much as conservation is necessary for survival, the American Ethical Union urges its constituent organizations and the general public to implement and encourage activities to assure understanding and observance of ecological principles by

1. Including conservation in educational programs on all age levels;

2. Supporting research in conservation and environmental protection;

3. Requesting governments to ratify international, agreements and conventions on conservation of natural resources, and the use of waters and airspace;

4. Enlisting all ages in suitable projects such as, a) reforestation, b) protection of rivers and oceans, c) noise abatement and pollution control..

The American Ethical Union recognizes the moral and ethical imperative to protect, improve and conserve the common heritage of life on this planet, and will emphasize and promote the findings and recommendations of the 1972 United. Nations Conference on the Human Environment which has focused world attention on the problems, and which is furnishing a universal springboard for action — local, national and international.
