1974 – World Resources And The Energy Crisis

01 Sep 1974
Jake Ritter
Resolutions

Submitted by the Ethical Culture Society of Queens to the AEU 66th Assembly

The equitable distribution of all resources among all people in all countries is a precondition for world peace. The resources of this planet belong to the people living on it,

The developed nations, with their superior knowledge, carry a great responsibility not only to their own countrymen, but also to less developed nations.

The energy crisis, if not reversed, will create a food crisis of immense proportions all over the world.

Therefore the American Ethical Union urges our government to lead the developed and industrialized nations in a new approach to secure adequate living standards for all people in all countries by:

A. Changing the economy of this country from one of waste to one of wise husbandry of our own resources.

B. offering our technical and scientific knowledge to all who wish to profit from our experience.

C. Leading the other nations in the effort to further peace by using its own resources for life instead of for death.

D. Adopting a comprehensive energy and natural resources policy with due concern for its environmental impact. These policies shall be adopted with the consultation of those most affected by them, namely, the people of this country.

E. Approaching all countries to join us in a new agency, under the aegis of the United Nations, funded by the technologically advanced nations, to put their scientists and experts at the disposal of this agency for a concerted effort to develop plans to overcome shortages, test new resources, open new fields of research, and secure a fair distribution of the wealth of this planet for the benefit of all.
