1987 – Peace In Central America
Submitted to the AEU 79th Assembly
Whereas we believe in promoting and maintaining peace and good relations between nations;
Whereas policies presently pursued by the United States Government in Central America have served to dangerously escalate armed conflict between and within a number of Central American nations;
Whereas The Contadora or similar processes offer the most constructive and effective means of resolving these conflicts; and
Whereas support of basic improvements in the economies of Central American nations offers the best environment for the development of friendly, democratic regimes not threatened by internal or external hostile forces,
Therefore Be It Resolved that as citizens of the United States we strongly urge the United States Government to:
- cease covert and overt militaristic interference in Central America;
- support Contadora and similar processes and United Nations peacekeeping efforts; and
- actively promote improvements in basic economic conditions in the nations of Central America.
