2016 Ethical Resolutions: Now We Must Walk the Walk!
Hugh Taft-Morales, Ethical Action Report Editor
At the 2016 American Ethical Union Assembly in St. Louis, four resolutions were passed:
- Systemic Racism in the United States
- Living Wage
- Proposing the Securities and Exchange Commission Require Corporate Political Expense Disclosure in Annual Reports
- Move to Amend Citizens United
Please read these and distribute them to your fellow Ethical Culturists by putting theme in your newsletter, having them in hard copy on a literature table, or reading one each Sunday over the course of a month!
The real challenge before us now, of course, is to make sure our words are backed by action. Every Ethical Society, and every member, is unique–not all will be as interested in every issue. Not all will work on concrete expressions of the sentiment behind every resolution. That’s understandable. We hope, however, that most Societies will act on at least a couple of the resolutions. If you do, please send me, the AEU Ethical Action Report Editor, and Emily Newman, Communications Coordinator, a brief description of your actions for future publication. Let’s share how we “walk the walk!”
