National Leaders Council Officers Statement (NLC) on Endorsement of Scenario Resolutions

24 Jul 2023

The National Leaders Council (NLC) is the organizing body for certified Ethical Culture Leaders. Like many groups in the Union, the NLC has been in discernment about the future of the American Ethical Union (AEU) and the role of Ethical Culture Leaders within the movement.

During our most recent business meeting on Thursday, July 20, the NLC resolved to withhold collective endorsement for any proposed Scenario Resolution submitted for consideration at the upcoming AEU Assembly business meeting. To that end, we issue the following statement.

The NLC as a body does not endorse or take an official position on any Scenario Resolution.

Additionally, NLC members are resolved to vote as individual delegates and not as a voting bloc. The NLC has encouraged and continues to encourage Ethical Culture Leaders to engage in deep conversation with delegates and Union members about the Scenario Resolutions. Such engagement is one source for informing an Ethical Culture Leaders’ vote if they are registered as a delegate.

Further, the NLC affirms that no Ethical Culture Leader has been designated as spokesperson to represent the NLC with regard to the proposed Scenario Resolutions or other AEU Assembly business.

Finally, the NLC passed a vote of confidence at the Thursday, July 20 business meeting indicating support for a no-endorsement and non-bloc voting position with regard to the Scenario Resolutions.

Sincerely,

Greg Bonin, NLC Vice-President (top right in photo)
