2024 Colloquy with Arthur Dobrin Starts in February
Are you looking for connection and reflection with a group of folks who are seeking to deepen their community of practice?
“For the past year, I have been a blessed with the opportunity to be a member of Arthur Dobrin’s weekly Colloquy group. I feel like I am a wiser and more compassionate person as a result of this treasured experience.” — 2023 Colloquy Participant
This past year, Arthur Dobrin, Leader Emeritus of the Long Island Ethical Humanist Society (ESHLI), led a weekly, year-long Colloquy gathering of participants from around the country. Arthur has generously offered to facilitate a similar group in 2024.
Arthur’s weekly 2024 Colloquy is available to anyone who is affiliated with the Ethical Movement. Gatherings will be held weekly on Zoom, day to be determined, with the first taking place in early February. Please note that the group is limited to 12 participants. After 12 participants have been confirmed, you may join a waitlist.
“Our group has thrived and appreciated this meditative group which adheres to the book of Colloquys, Spelling God with two O’s. I’m a fervent believer in the power of Colloquy to give voice to each attendee, challenge each to listen to other’s thoughts, and connect participants who are willing to continue to be present. Words are powerful, if we can stop, listen to, and support each other!” — 2023 Colloquy Participant

What is a colloquy?
A colloquy is a place to explore ethical values on a personal level. It is not: a discussion group, a political forum, a place to vent about the ills of society, a therapy group, an advice-giving or -seeking forum, a class. It is an opportunity to better understand and deepen your lived ethics through self-reflection and careful listening.
Arthur created Colloquy 40 years ago, and Colloquy is still a signature gathering for AEU Societies.
To learn more about Colloquies, we recommend watching Arthur’s interview with Ellen McBride. The ESHLI website is another useful resource to help immerse yourself in the world of colloquy.
2024 Colloquy Group Guidelines
- This group requires a serious commitment to be present on a weekly basis. If there is a night that you cannot make, please let Arthur know.
- Meetings will start promptly. The Zoom room will be opened 15 minutes before the start time.
- Participation is mandatory. While the amount you share is entirely up to you, dialogue is an integral part of these meetings and will require some level of interaction from each member.
