On February 8, 2025, the American Ethical Union Board of Directors adopted guidelines and a volunteer job description.
The proposals were socialized and proposed by the AEU Board Development Committee (BDC). Two listening sessions were hosted by the BDC open to all AEU Board members prior to the February Board meeting. Feedback from those sessions helped refine the proposals, which were adopted by Society Representatives to the Board in an 18-2 vote.

The Board of Directors has legal responsibility for the business affairs and policies of the American Ethical Union (AEU), under the purview granted by the Assembly. Its members are representatives from each member Society and are appointed by their Society. The honor of being a Director carries with it responsibility, a commitment of time, and the satisfaction of playing a key role in the growth and constancy of the Union.

Our ethics as Ethical Culturists and as members of the American Ethical Union will be reflected in everything we do as members of the Board of Directors. These ethics include treating each other with kindness, compassion, and respect. One expression of these values is that we will not interrupt each other and we will assume each person is acting with good intentions.
